The site of Deir Bahari is one of the most important and best known archaeological sites in Egypt with its famous temples of the Middle Kingdom pharaoh Mentuhotep and the New Kingdom Temples of Hatshepsut and Thutmosis III. It was previously explored by Lord Dufferin, one-time governor general of Canada, Swiss Egyptologist Edouard Naville, assisted by Charles T. Currelly, founder of the ROM, and Herbert Winlock of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
In 1961 Polish archaeologists and conservators began the excavation, conservation and restoration work at Deir el Bahari, discovering in the process a previously unknown temple of Thutmosis III, and restoring a large part of the temple of Hatshepsut. Many decorated blocks from these temples are presently in the collection of the Royal Ontario Museum.
This special talk is a fund-raiser for the Egyptian Collection
